Coaching Hierarchy

I'm DONE with the hierarchy of coaching.

 

I don't need you to think I am subtly better than you to pay me 20k…

I want you to feel that I am here, on your TEAM.

 

To support you. 

To guide and mentor BESIDE you..

not IN FRONT of you.

 

Am I further along than you in business?

Potentially.

But you have a ton to teach me as well.

 

This reminds me of the one time.....

 

When I was about to co lead a team to Brazil for a few months...

 

The woman/ friend who was leading the entire school that I was staff on (for context I used to be a missionary. Now I am not religious... but there was SO much gold from that season of life + it shaped me into who I am today as a leader 100%)

Told me that I was going to lead the team solo for a few weeks.

 

I was 21... and had never led a team solo.... 

I had 7 people I was overseeing.

 

And she said, I trust you... 

I'm going back to Australia (where we lived at the time).

So she left.

 

And then I did a great job (haha) and left a few weeks later... and on the way back to Australia we had a layover in Argentina. When we got to the Argentinian airport they told us....

 

We couldn't leave.

 

There was a volcano somewhere in the pacific (Hawaii I think) and the airplanes couldn't fly.The team had a couple hundred dollars to our name, knew no one in Argentina ++ was DONE.

 

Somehow, we met an amazing woman who helped us, got us into a hostel, and even let all 8 of us sleep in their 1 room apartment ++

And...

 

It was one of the BEST times of my life.

 

A week, stranded. Just surrendering to life... opened up my eyes to one of my favorite countries l've been to yet.

 

But TBH. If she wouldn't have left, if she wouldn't have believed in me...

I would never have gotten to experience my capabilities as a leader, my strength, and my resiliency in the same way.

 

Tbh I have led through the years with many men...

Who almost all seemed to NEED the spotlight.

And she willingly gave it away.

 

I learned from this experience... 

that true leadership is less about what is SAID, and more about the POSITIONING of the leader.

 

To have the most impact..

You do not need to be the loudest,

or best in the room.

 

But you need to have your HEART open, 

positioned NEXT to the person.

Not in front.

Not looking down on.

But BESIDE.

 

So here's your reminder as your leveling up the person you're talking to..

 

The magic is not that you're "so far ahead of them"

And you've "embodied the transformation for 20 years"…

 

It's that you're willing to walk alongside them.

 

A true leader needs not to be "in front"

But knows the power of "walking beside".
